Did you know that the vast majority of private lenders offer repayment incentives such as interest rate reductions? In many cases, these reductionse from automating payments through a checking or savings account . The incentives can range from about .25% to .50% and can save you a lot of interest.

Yes, overpayments. While I realize that not everyone has the resources to do this, for those who can, paying over your minimum can cut years off of your private student loan repayment. Heres an example :

Loan Amount: $10,000
Repayment Term: 15 years or 180 months
Interest Rate: 6.0%
Monthly Payment: $84
Amount paid in interest: $5,189

So if you were to pay $20 more each month and apply the payments directly to principal, youre total paid in interest would be $3,667.

If we take this one step further, and say you pay $40 more per month, you would only pay $2,834 in interest.

When Netflix announced a few weeks back that it was hiking prices on its movie rentals, the competition was like sharks in the water sensing blood.

To no one’s major surprise, super-retailer Walmart went public on Tuesday that it would now offer streaming video for sale or rental on its Web site. Should we believe this to be a coincidence given the Netflix announcement recently or a well-timed marketing ploy?

Having purchased video-on-demand service VUDU a year ago, Walmart will rely on its wholly-owned subsidiary to service customers.

According to a release from VUDU General Manager Edward Lichty, “This integration allows us to introduce more Walmart.com customers to digital entertainment and give them access to thousands of new release and popular movie titles immediately through VUDU’s high-quality streaming service. We’re

For those of us that call San Diego home, we are under siege through the weekend.

No, it is not some military attack or some spread of killer bees. No, it is not even the big earthquake that scientists have been forecasting for California for decades.

As it stands, we are under siege for lack of a better term from thousands and thousands of geeks. Yes, you heard me, geeks! It is none other than Comic-Con time once again in San Diego.

These geeks that I speak of come from near and far, taking part in what has grown and been marketed from a small gathering back in the 1970s to a worldwide phenomenon today.

As far as they are concerned, San Diego is theirs through the weekend.

As the summer sun continues to bake a large swath of the country, employers often find this time of year a little more challenging to do business in.

Not only are employees and customers more apt to be taking vacations, but your office dress code may be wilting a little bit as employees look to push the envelope.

As a business owner, are you seeing a little too much skin, too many tattoos and other fashion distractions in the workplace this summer? If that’s the case, it may be time to hold a meeting or send out a memo reminding employees of their responsibilities when it comes to representing the company both in and outside the office, especially if important sales are involved.

The first and most important message to get across to your staff is that you’re running the show, so remind them to leave certain items at home or cover them up when they’re on the clock.

As an employer, you may be hesitant to enforce dress code rules for fear of a possible legal claim; the law is actually on your side for the most part when it comes to work attire and federal discrimination laws. Emplo

Amid a variety of attacks in recent months on different U.S.-based Internet sites, questions have abound about just how secure the ‘Net really is.

According to former CIA director Michael Hayden, who worked under President G.W. Bush, the U.S. may require an entire new piece of Internet infrastructure.

Reports indicate a number of  high-level individuals in Washington, D.C. are considering the idea of forming a “secure” domain where Fourth Amendment rights to privacy are voluntarily waived to stay clear of cyber criminals.

Now before anyone worries that the U.S. will become the next China, the goal here is simply to create a domain where cyber criminals are locked out and thwarted from obtaining sensitive information. In 2010, Chinese officials closed down some 1.3 million Web sites, adding to complaints from civil rights backers who say government officials impose controls that are too strict.

While such controls are not coming to the U.S. some g
