Seeing the popularity internet banking has attained recently, PayYOURway has revealed the top safety measures when using internet banking in its campaign entitled ‘Get safe online’.
As PayYOURway said recently, one out of four internet users carry out some form of online banking every day. That is why protection is essential in order to make sure your finances are safe. These are the top tips you should follow when banking online:
- A locked padlock or unbroken key symbol in the browser window indicates that the site is secure; make sure that it appears in your Internet page when you log onto your online bank account.
- Ensure that the web address changes from ‘http’ to ‘https’ when you are managing your money online.
- Always access your online bank’s website by typing the name in yourself. It is safer than going to a website by pressing a link in an email – you can’t be 100% sure who sends it, but will always know were your login on if your type the words yourself.
- Make sure your computer is totally protected: download security updates, switch on your PC’s firewall, and update your anti-virus. Every safety measure is good.
- Choose passwords which are difficult to guess. Combining letters with numbers is the best technique. If you worry about forgetting them, replace e with 3, i with 1, o with 0, and so on.
- Never write confidential data online. Your real bank would never ask you to disclose your PIN number, so don’t trust emails that ask you for it. Also, be careful with the information you give away on social networking sites.
- Keep your a good track of all your financial affairs, so that if there is something truly suspicious you can identify it and report it immediately.
